Today, we’re capping off the launch with our very first Off-Menu post.

There’s a few brilliant things happening in Glasgow this month. Conscious that we’ve missed the first week of September, but there’s still a few things you should check out later on in the month.

• Scottish Wild Food Festival (19–20 Sept) | Near Drymen: A short trip out past Milngavie for outdoor foraging walks, wild cooking demos, and local artisan markets.

Weekend Pocket Guide

• Autumn Walk - Clyde Walkway via Govan Bridge: Take the riverside route starting at the Riverside Museum, cross the new footbridge to Govan for a stop at the historic stones, and double back along the Clyde for golden hour views of the Finnieston Crane. Just an idea if you’re looking for a new walking route. Be sure to wrap up though as its going to get colder.

• Cosy Drinks - Vroni’s Wine Bar: The ultimate low-lit spot for a cheeseboard and wine flights as the nights start drawing in. There’s some cracking deals online at Vroni’s - be sure to check out sites like Itison and see if there’s any offers available. • Dinner Spot - Malocchio: Ideal Merchant City stop for fresh pasta and small plates before heading out to explore. Our previous post was on this if you want to read about our experience there.

Hello, welcome to Day 2 of our launch weekend!

Yesterday we kicked things off with our big Christmas venue guide under Best Of. Today, we’re dipping into our Experiences section for the first time. This is where we shine a light on single spots across the city - giving you the full, first-hand picture of what a place is like, what to order, and why it’s worth your time.

First up is Malocchio, an Italian small-plates joint on Ingram Street in Merchant City that’s been making some serious noise...

Malocchio has fast become a favourite fixture on Ingram Street, drawing in plenty of well-deserved attention from the city’s food scene. We recently headed along to put version 2.2 of their contemporary small-plates menu to the test for a full evening dinner.

The Visit

Having previously stopped by Malocchio for a quick lunch, we were eager to see how the experience was a little later in the day. Situated in a massive, beautifully designed space in the heart of the Merchant City, the restaurant was absolutely buzzing when we arrived.

The service was excellent from start to finish. Despite how busy the dining room was, our servers were incredibly attentive, checking in on us multiple times throughout the night to ensure we were completely happy with our meal. The team recommends ordering 2–3 small plates per person, designed to arrive fresh at the table as soon as they are ready. To get a true taste of menu version 2.2, we decided to choose a dish from every section.

We kicked things off with a pint of Moretti, a crisp bottle of Pinot Grigio, some sourdough bread, and their signature trio of dips. This proved to be the ideal way to start, as the fresh bread and flavourful dips arrived first to nibble on while the rest of our order followed in incredibly quick succession. Next up was the honey-glazed roasted carrots from the cicchetti section-and frankly, I’ve never tasted a carrot like it. They were absolutely stunning.

From the fresh pasta selection, we ordered the nduja sausage pasta, which was beautifully rich and offered the perfect kick of spice, alongside an extra helping of their incredible fresh ravioli. We also couldn’t resist a selection from the pizzette menu, opting for the fried pizzette. It was unbelievably light and fluffy, boasting a batter-like texture that was entirely delicious. To finish, we indulged our sweet tooth. My partner went for the equally stunning baked New York cheesecake, while I opted for the “make your own” bespoke sundae-loaded with marshmallow, Flake, crushed meringue, and salted caramel sauce, it was honestly out of this world.

What we thought

We thoroughly enjoyed Malocchio from start to finish. The service was excellent, the food was absolutely delicious, and menu 2.2 completely delivers on its promise of fresh, authentic Italian cuisine. The restaurant is huge inside, radiating good vibes and a lively atmosphere that perfectly captures a great night out in the city center. It was busy for a reason, and we can definitely see why it has captured Glasgow’s attention. We will definitely be back, and we thoroughly recommend you check it out if you haven’t been.

If you’re a fan of quality Italian food done right without any pretension, Malocchio is well worth a visit - just make sure you get a booking in, as space fills up quickly.

• Good to know: The menu is structured around a relaxed sharing concept where plates come out as soon as they are freshly cooked, rather than a traditional starter-and-main course system.

To kick off the launch of Glasgow IRL, we’re doing things a wee bit differently this week. Over the next three days - Thursday, Friday, and Saturday - we’re dropping three posts into your inbox to give you a proper feel for the publication, before settling into our regular schedule every Thursday morning at 7:30 AM.

And what better way to start than with a job nobody ever wants to leave to the last minute: sorting the Christmas party.

It might only be September, but if you’re the one tasked with organising the office work do, a big night out with pals, or a festive catch-up with family, the best spots in the city fill up fast.

Under our Best Of section today, we’ve pulled together 20 of Glasgow’s top Christmas party venues for 2026 - from low-key pub feeds and boozy dart sessions to full three-course dinners with ceilidhs and rooftop views.

Here’s where to look...

VOCO Grand Central

Best for: convenience without compromise

If you’re looking for a convenient location which is literally attached to the train station then the Grand Central is the perfect choice. This year they’ve got various options available including Christmas party lunches, Festive Flamingo Bingo and party nights in their Victoria Suite and Grand Ballroom. Prices vary but for the lunch and bingo options, it’s priced at £55 per person (pp). The other options are a little more expensive if you want to party into the evening. Whether you’re planning a work Christmas get together or want to head in with family or friends, the Grand Central is a great choice.

The venue itself is beautiful and food-wise, there’s some mouth watering options including slow-roasted turkey and vanilla and passionfruit cheesecake.

The Horseshoe Bar

Best for: budget-friendly nights out

Who doesn’t love a wee night at the Horseshoe? This budget friendly option is perfect for work Christmas nights and group get togethers. There’s two menus to choose from, the 2-course festive set menu and the festive buffet menu. The set menu offers 2-courses for £16.50pp, or you can upgrade to 3-courses for £19.50pp and it includes dishes like Guinness BBQ Chicken Yorkies, Turkey Dinner Pie and Sticky Toffee Pudding. The festive buffet option is ideal for groups with a selection of festive favourites served at £17.95pp.

If you’re looking for a lively atmosphere and good vibes, The Horseshoe Bar has it.

The Normandy Hotel

Best for: dressed-up dancing

The Normandy in Renfrew goes all out for the festive season, with a full lineup of tribute and disco party nights running from late November right through December, plus a family Disco with Santa. Prices start from £39pp for the Festive Disco Party Nights in the Cedar Suite, with the bigger tribute acts like Abba Again and Mamma Mia priced around £48-55pp.

If you fancy a proper dressed-up night of dancing rather than a sit-down dinner, this is the one – just be quick, the tribute nights sell out early.

The Corinthian Club

Best for: ambience and atmosphere

Set across five stunning floors in a former courthouse in Merchant City, the Corinthian does festive dining properly – a three-course set menu with a glass of fizz on arrival in Tellers Brasserie, or private dining in atmospheric rooms like Nosey Parkers and the Skean-Dhu. If you’re after more of a party, their Jingle & Beats night on 6th December brings DJ Cassi from Clyde 1 alongside the resident DJ, priced at £49.95pp.

It’s one of the most striking buildings in the city, so if ambience matters as much as the food, start here.

Oran Mor

Best for: dinner and dancing under one roof

Oran Mor’s festive programme runs the full spectrum, from party nights in the Auditorium (from £59.95pp) to its adults-only Christmas panto – always a Glasgow institution and a proper laugh, with tickets typically starting around £22.50pp. There’s private dining in Dan Mór and the Beattie/MacLennan Room if you want something more intimate, and a full-on party in the Main Bar if you don’t.

Whether it’s dinner or dancing you’re after, this West End landmark can do both under one roof.

Sloans

Best for: a proper ceilidh

Sloans spreads its Christmas across three floors, from a Christmas Ceilidh with a three-course meal, live band and a dram of whisky or gin for £65pp, to bespoke private parties for 50-150 guests with an arrival drink and either a live DJ or ceilidh band. The Ceilidh nights run on 20th November and 18th-19th December, so get in early if that’s the one you want.

It’s Glasgow’s oldest bar and restaurant, so there’s a proper sense of occasion to it – especially if a real ceilidh is your idea of a good night out.

Flight Club

Best for: games over speeches

Fancy something different from a sit-down dinner? Flight Club’s Social Darts sessions come with food and drinks brought straight to your oche while you play, so nobody disappears to the bar all night. Christmas packages run from 16th November to 24th December for groups of 10 or more, with past pricing landing around £35pp for food, drinks and two hours of games.

It’s a proper laugh rather than a fancy night out, and it’s ideal if your group’s a mix of ages or you’d rather skip the speeches.

Slug & Lettuce

Best for: cocktails and glitz

Slug & Lettuce on West George Street has three ways to do Christmas: a festive set menu (2 or 3 courses), a festive buffet for groups of 6+, or their Christmas Boozy Brunch with up to 6 drinks each and the option to add £5pp for extras including their limited-edition festive cocktails. Book before 30th September and you’ll get £5 off the boozy brunch.

Good one if you’re after cocktails and a bit of glitz over a formal sit-down meal.

Red Sky Bar

Best for: rooftop views

Red Sky Bar sits on the 9th floor of Radisson RED in Finnieston, with panoramic views over the Clyde, Squinty Bridge and the Finnieston Crane – one of the best-looking spots on this list even before the festive brunches and brand-partner parties kick in. It’s available for exclusive hire, section hire or smaller table bookings, and past headline nights have brought in the likes of Marti Pellow and Callum Beattie.

Revolución de Cuba

Best for: something with a bit more flavour

Revolución de Cuba on Renfield Street brings a Latin twist to the traditional work do – a tapas feasting menu from £28.95pp, a 2 or 3-course Cuban Christmas dinner from £30.95pp, or a full buffet from £32.95pp. It’s a 3-minute walk from Central Station, so handy if you’re heading straight there from the office.

If you want something with a bit more flavour than the usual turkey dinner, it’s worth a look – just double-check pricing nearer the time as festive menus tend to shift year to year.

Boom Battle Bar

Best for: competitive games

Boom Battle Bar swaps the sit-down meal for competitive games – axe throwing, shuffleboard, augmented reality darts and more – with three ready-made Christmas packages running from £40pp (2 hours of games plus drinks) up to £85pp for the works with food, cocktails and a festive shot. You can also build your own package around your budget.

If a show-stopping view is non-negotiable for your do, this is the one to book – just get in early, as the best nights here go fast.

Grosvenor Hotel

Best for: variety and choice

The Grosvenor’s festive programme runs from 27th November to 19th December, with shared party nights featuring live tribute acts and DJs from £45pp on Thursdays up to £60pp on Fridays and Saturdays, plus more relaxed Botanic Party Nights from £35-50pp. There are also themed festive brunches (country, Motown, bingo) and a Hogmanay Ceilidh Ball on 31st December from £95pp.

Every night’s also available for exclusive private hire if you’d rather have the whole place to yourselves.

Fayre Play

Best for: playful group fun

Fancy something more playful than a sit-down dinner? Fayre Play in Kinning Park is Scotland’s first funfair games bar, with nine adults-only carnival games (think hook-a-duck and whack-a-mole with a Glasgow twist), street food and cocktails, with tickets typically running £20-£40pp depending on package. You can also enquire about exclusive venue hire for a full office takeover.

A genuinely different one for the list if your group’s already done the usual dinner-and-disco combo.

Golf Fang

Best for: something completely different

Golf Fang is Glasgow’s graffiti-covered crazy golf bar on Lancefield Street – 18 holes, street food, cocktails and DJs, with full venue hire available for up to 335 guests. It’s a strictly over-18s spot with a Challenge 25 policy.

Christmas pricing isn’t listed online so you’ll need to enquire direct, but it’s one of the more unique nights out on this list if your group’s already ticked off the traditional dinner-and-disco a few times.

Kimpton Blythswood Square

Best for: getting properly dressed up

The Blythswood is a stunning hotel right on Blythswood Square, all rich wood panelling and old-school glamour with a contemporary twist. Their Monte Carlo Suite takes up to 80 guests for a seated meal or 60 for a lively DJ party, with packages starting from £69pp, or there’s a festive set menu at their restaurant iasg from £35 for two courses. Prefer something smaller and more relaxed? The Salon does drinks and canapés if you just want a stylish spot for a few festive cocktails.

It’s one of the most polished options on this list, so if you want to get properly dressed up for the Christmas season, start here.

Tennent’s Bar

Best for: a lively West End pub night

Tennent’s Bar on Byres Road is another good shout. They’ve got the same great food on offer as The Horseshoe Bar as they’re run by the same company, so please check out the prices above, or use the link below to see the menu.

The Social

Best for: cocktails in the city centre

Fancy festive cocktails and good food in Royal Exchange Square? The Social Glasgow has fuss free dining on offer with 2-courses and a festive cocktail from £29.95pp, £5pp more if you’re visiting on a Friday or Saturday. You can also add on a third course for an additional £5pp. Menu includes classics like Haggis Bonbon’s, Bake Fillet of Salmon and Mulled Winter Berry Pavlova. They also have a £20pp festive buffet option – minimum of 10 people required for this. You can also shake things up and opt for a Christmas Cocktail Masterclass priced from £35pp.

If you’re looking for a good atmosphere for your Christmas night out then The Social is a staple choice.

The Smokin’ Fox

Best for: budget-friendly festive dining

Foxmas is coming and it comes with a brilliant budget-friendly menu. Starting 16th November, you can enjoy a 2-course or 3-course option. Monday-Wednesday starts at £25.50 and Thursday-Sunday starts at £28.50. They’ve got drink packages available too which could save you some money if there’s a few of you. Menu includes things like Gin Cured Salmon, Haggis and Mushroom Vegan Wellington and Ginger Spiced Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Great atmosphere in this pub but note it can be busy depending on when you go – like most places around Christmas time.

The Duke’s Umbrella

Best for: a cosy, quieter night

This is a cracking wee pub, conveniently located in the city centre but in a bit more of a quieter area just up from the Broomielaw. Over the festive season, they’ve got lunch available from 12-4pm priced from £40 which includes things like Curried Parsnip Soup and Roast Chicken Supreme. The dinner menu, price from £50 and available 4pm till close has a bigger selection including Braised Beef.

The Duke’s Umbrella has a great atmosphere and is a cosy pub.

Dakota Glasgow

Best for: a stylish night, with the option to stay over

Unwrap the festive season at the stunning Dakota Glasgow where you can always add on an overnight stay if you want to. They’ve got a 3-course lunch menu at £50pp, and a 3-course dinner option at £55pp. Available from 16th November until 23rd December, you can enjoy a selection of dishes including Scottish Smoked Salmon, Turkey Breast and Christmas Pudding. If you’re booking a bigger event then there are private spaces available.

If you’ve been in any of the Dakota hotels then you’ll know they’re stunning, so it’s a good choice for your festive plans.
